I found this hardcover in this [a href=""]Little Free Library in Brookline NH[/a] while dropping off some books of my own ahead of a snowstorm.

It's an unusual novel, speculating on what might happen if all the women in the world had a kind of power, the ability to summon electricity to cause anything from minor tingling to devastating destruction. The story unfolds through the viewpoints of different characters, each of which has experienced traumas that have triggered their use of this power. But those segments are interspersed with images of ancient artifacts and excerpts from technical papers, all suggesting that this Age of Power happened long ago - and may have superseded another era in which the women did not have power and (astonishingly, to the writers of these sections) men were the ones in charge... The whole thing's presented as a manuscript within a manuscript, with some telling letters between the male author and the female-in-charge. Nicely mind-bending and thought-provoking, though overall it suggests that humans will tend to be violent and oppressive no matter who's in charge.

[There's a [a href=""]TV Tropes page[/a] on the book, with some interesting tidbits.]

I left this book in the same Little Free Library where I found it - not planned that way, but perhaps it just wanted to go home. Hope someone enjoys it!
