Another beautifully written...& presented...fable-like tale of magic, mystery & friendship from Hoffmann, however this one is actually aimed at much younger audience than myself. No matter, it's still a highly enjoyable read featuring all the aspects that Hoffmann includes in her novels for older readers.
Some of the characters felt vaguely familiar, as did the setting, reminding me of some of the stories in "The Red Garden" - although maybe it was just because once again apples featured!
Overall, it's a tale that had me entranced, however I did feel the ending wasn't...mmmm..."quite right" is the best I can describe it. I would have liked a conclusion that was a bit darker & less cosy. However, to be fair it's target market is nearly 50 years my junior....
