This ex-library hardcover was among the books donated to the Nashua Public Library for distribution to the Little Free Libraries.

This is a slightly different twist on a Christmas legend, written by Selma Lagerlof and retold by Ellin Greene. A family of desperately poor folk, who are referred to as Robbers ever since the father had been caught stealing a cow years before, visit the monastery garden one day to beg. The monks greet them rudely, but the abbot is kind - and in return the mother tells him of a wondrous garden that blooms near their hideout on Christmas Eve. The abbot asks if he may come and see this wonderful thing, and reluctantly the family agrees - but things don't go quite as planned...

An interesting tale, handsomely illustrated by Charles Mikolaycak.
