I got this slim hardcover from Better World Books, amused at the idea of making Enid Blyton's Famous Five into humorous books with more adult issues. (See also Five Go Gluten Free!)

As per the title, this one involves the gang coming to terms with their alcohol consumption - though of them all, Julian seems to be the major boozehound, and he's the one who suffers least from the affects of overindulging. But the crew manages to agree to give up booze for a month, doing their best to support each other - even if Anne starts sneaking cigarettes, the boyish George finds herself gaining weight, and Dick discovers himself at a pub with an empty glass in front of him more than once...

Still, things might be OK for the five - except that there's a wedding coming up, with Julian as best man, and the groom is perhaps the most wild pub-crawling boozer in their social group. When the guys get invited to the stag party and the girls to the hen party (George fussing as to why she can't go to the stag, as she'd rather pub-crawl than watch the other women go shopping), events escalate in hilarious ways. Will the marriage take place? Will the gang hold to their resolve until the month is out? What will Julian do about the unexpected confession from the groom-to-be? And will poor Timmy the dog ever get his people back to normal, so they stop taking him for walks every hour on the hour?
