I don't know enough about Coetzee's biography to know up to what point this novel is autobiographica, so I am going to review it just as fiction---
It is an interesting view at childhood from the perspective of a boy who I perceived as eccentric; he is a good student, but for the wrong reasons; there is a great dea of stuff which goes on about his reationship with his parents
Sometimes I didn't get the references to history and people from South Africa, so I have taken away a point to the mark of this book because of that
It is not my favourite Coetzee book that I have read anyway, maybe because I didn`t see the progression in the main character, it is more a series of episodes from my point of view
