Purchased at the library book sale because of the Hunger Games author connection.

At first I was a little disappointed, as the story starts out as the most worn, conventional, formulaic quest story: a person lands in an alternate world and is tasked with saving the world and battling the villain. Pleeeze. Okay, this is the author's first novel, so it's no surprise it's not comparable to The Hunger Games, but nonetheless... I almost gave up on the book.

But halfway through, I like it more and more. There is a depth in the characters, each with a promising backstory, a slightly different way of looking at things, that breath some fresh air into a stale boy-saves-the-world plot, and gives a peek of more awesome stories to come.
