The October Man
8 journalers for this copy...
Book nine of the Rivers of London series, or does this count as the start of a new series as it's set in Germany and the protagonist is a new character, Tobias Winter. Set in Trier, famous for its wine, a body is found covered in a sort of fungus that infects grapes and Tobias is the investigating officer. An enjoyable read but this doesn't have the humour and the cultural references that make the London books so great.

I couldn’t help myself and read this immediately. I really enjoyed it. The references to Mainz, Roman remains and vineyards on steep slopes reminded me of the Mainz Convention. Now I want to visit Trier.

The October Man is here, and he came with BC labels and a postcard, thanks Poodlesister! It would be perfect to read this in October but I haven't received the previous volume yet, so I guess I need to wait.

"There was a statue on the lawn outside of a woman, hand on breast, looking mournfully upwards as if contemplating the death of a loved one and the amount of paperwork it was bound to cause."
This novella's only fault is that it isn't a novel. I would have wanted to read more about Tobias Winter and Vanessa Sommer, and the magical Germany.

This has arrived safely in Switzerland - where I might be a tiny bit longer than originally planned, so Lies Sleeping can probably be sent here safely as well... (but do check please). Is it problematic to read this before the previous book in the series -in which case I might be ever so cheeky and wait, and then send them both on to LysMibo together? Please let me know if there are objections to this plan.
Meanwhile, yet again, thank you so much for making this series available, and for sending.

This novella is here as part of the bookcrossing spiral. I actually got it before the previous book and waited to read that one first, but as Mecu pointed out, it really would not have made any difference. This was set in Germany and was quite a fun excursion. I can't help hoping Tobi and Peter will cross paths at some point (in a positive way).
This will probably have to wait a bit before it can travel on, but maybe not?

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
As there were problems with the delivery of this spiral when I sent it to LysMibo last time, I gave this and the previous book in the series to my daughter to post from London when she returned at the beginning of the month.
Now, finally out of quarantine she was able to go to the post, and hopefully this will wend its way successfully to Ireland. Enjoy!
Thanks to everyone for making these books available, and Lamilla for setting up the spiral!

Finally! The book is here! Shanghai has been hit with a 2 month very strict lock down due to Covid, and nothing was moving around (including mail). But I'm glad to see the books here now that the lock down is lifted!
