"When Amy Leatheran travels to an ancient site in the Iraqi desert to nurse the wife of a celebrated archaeologist, events prove stranger than she has ever imagined. Her patient’s bizarre visions and nervous terror seem unfounded, but as the oppressive tension in the air thickens, events come to a terrible climax – in murder. With one spot of blood as his only clue, Hercule Poirot must embark on a journey across the desert to unravel a mystery which taxes even his remarkable powers."

Agatha Christie has made an interesting choice when writing this mystery: she makes nurse Amy Leatheran the narrator. She is a very observant woman and tells about people and happenings at the archaeological dig to a great detail. She even describes Hercule Poirot's personality and work habits.

Christie knows so well how to baffle the reader. I suspected almost all the workers at the excavation in turn - which, no doubt, was the aim of the author! - and still she succeeded in astonishing me by the conclusion. I like Christie's detective novels a lot, and this is one of the most interesting of her whodunits.

This was only my second Agatha Christie book. (The first one was 'Nemesis') and I liked this one way better than the other one.

The mystery was great and fairly complicated, the atmosphere before the murder was even greater. The characters were interesting enough. The nurse was a stereotypical no-nonsense British lady that I really liked from the beginning.
Poirot was also a great character. Even though he was not in a rush to appear the tale before he came was interesting enough so one did not miss him much.
