"The Little House series introduced millions of readers to the beloved world of Laura Ingalls Wilder. From her very young days in the prairie to her golden years with her husband, Almanzo, Laura has become a friend to all who read her classic books. Here, noted Wilder historian William Anderson takes a fresh look at Laura in the days of her youth, and gives a detailed account of the events her cherished books describe. In these pages we learn what historic events inspired Laura to write her stories and what happens to her after the last Little House book ends."

I have to confess that I have not read any of the Little House books, but their writer interests me a lot all the same. Fortunately I was lucky to win this biography of hers from a lottery of a book blog.
Laura Ingalls Wilder : A Biography is a cheerful and positive book. I learnt plenty about the American pioneer history from it, but first the text appeared naive and maybe too simplistic until I realised the biography to be a juvenile book. I was also surprised to find out that the first book of Laura Ingalls Wilder was published when she was already 65 years old, and she continued to write the whole series of pioneer history and stories for children. Got me interested in starting to read the Little House books!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
The book was mailed today to fulfill a wish. Happy reading and a merry Christmas!
The book arrived today and will be read fairly soon as I've already tagged bookworm-lady with it. There are four or five promised tags waiting already...
I've grown up watching the Little House TV-series (some episodes had nothing to do with Laura Ingalls, but were written by Michael Landon, Laura's TV-Pa who also directed part of the series) and I've read the books several times. It will be interesting to hear what a historian has dug up from her life.

Laura jumped the queue as the book looks like a fast read. I liked the map which showed their travels, I never realized they went back and forth and travelled such long distances, which at that time wasn't all that easy. But even if that was hard life, they travelled because they wanted to, Indians had to leave because these settlers had invaded the land which was given to them, to the Indians.
Finished last night.
I never knew daughter Rose was a skilled writer, too.
I have always wondered how "somebody came for a visit and stayed over a year...", in this case Helen Boylston. I've had all her Sue Barston -books, although the nurse's name was Helena in the Finnish translation.

Finally the book gets to move on. I've been meaning to send this since I finished the book, but Christmas and New Year sort of disturbed routines. Now I've tagged Bookworm-lady with yet another book, so they'll get to travel together today, when we have the worst weather of the winter so far. Well, there is snow even in Madrid, yesterday I watched a video where somebody was driving a team of huskies on the streets there.

Thank you sooo much for your parcel, with this book and a spooky travelling companion.
Just like you, I loved the Michael Landon series... such innocence and love. I bet reality was harsher, but well, we all like a nice story.
By the way, your post-box looks like my air-conditioning external device looked for two days...

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Although I agree with Paulanni about its basic wording adequate for younger readers, this is still a very interesting first-hand approach to the lives of American pioneers, who seemed to be always on the move, always looking for new horizons and building new homes. This contrasts with modern life, where each time we move home becomes a stressful situation. It is clear that they needed fewer things to live happily.
The photos included were a real treat, people looked so solemn in these... maybe because they were forced to stay in the same position for quite a long time. And I have since learned that smiling for photos is a quite recent development, just figure..
Thanks for making this book available, Paulanni, and thanks to kirjakko for sending it and for her always amusing journals. This reminded me of the horrid Storm Filomena, which covered Spain with snow two years ago. Fingers crossed that it won't happen again! :)

Sent as a WishList Tag Game book to Icila... and it does not travel alone.
Enjoy! :)

Thank you Bookworm-lady, Laura arrived by an icy morning.
