A Good Place to Come from

I did read this years ago, but don't remember it well enough to rate it. It is a memoir about growing up in Sault Ste. Marie, a small town in Ontario, I believe during the 40's. From the cover..."it could have been any small town that mixed Jewish merchants with English lawyers, Scots banker, Ukranian miners and a handful of Chinese-one of whom invariably owned The Ritz Cafe." I know that seems rather simplistic or stereotyped but I suspect it was true of the times when the roles people(especially in small towns)were allowed(or encouraged) to play in public life were extremely restricted.
