I found this copy in a charity shop after coming home from the Convention in Oslo! It's taken me awhile to finally get around to reading it. Nice to be familiar with the location in which Hole operates, enjoyed this as much as the others.

I had trouble keeping up with who everyone was but I enjoyed it. I do think that Harry is more like a private detective than a member of the police force. There are lots of twists and turns and more than one criminal. Also, it's very violent.

I read all the Harry Hole books before going to the Oslo convention and released them on the walk. My copy is still somewhere in Norway. Here is my review:-

The book has a complex plot involving foreign travel, bank robbers, gypsies, unfaithful spouses, drug addicts, prison inmates, a rich executive, corrupt cops, and more. The underlying theme of the book is nemesis - getting revenge for perceived wrongs. And some of the characters have long discussions about the military strategies of Sun Tsu, author of the 'The Art of War.' This slows the story down in places. Although I enjoyed most of the story, I did get lost within the twists and turns of the story so that at times I had no idea what was going on or why. Thank goodness for the briefing at the end.

ETA - I'm currently watching a TV programme about "super recognisers". This is what Harry's colleague Beate Lønn is. This programme said science has only recently discovered the existence of super recognition, however this book was written in 2002. The Metropolitan Police only set up their super recgoniser team in 2015. Fiction well ahead of real life.
