Here is my review from when I read this very chilling and memorable book.

This was quite a harrowing story and I needed to de-brief with a friend who had also read the book. I was surprised about the relationship between Eva and her son Kevin, the fact that she never bonded with him at birth and that their relationship was always tense and unnatural. I'm not sure if the same consequences would occur in real life - or even that children who are brought up in a normal family NEVER behave normally, as was the case with Kevin.
I like the way the book was written in the form of letters from Eva to her husband who I assumed had left her - and I guess he had! The letters were her way of trying to explain why Kevin had committed the horrendous crime of killing nine people at his school; she was blaming herself because of their bad relationship. I was always waiting for something to happen to Kevin's sister Celia ..but I was shocked when it actually did.
Part of the conclusion was expected as we had been learning about his crime all the way through the book; but when I read Eva's last letter to her husband Franklin, recalling her arrival home after that eventful day, I was not prepared for the shocking ending.
