This was a revolutionary novel in its time, and now it resonates with us in a different way. I have read all of the Brontë sisters' novels, and even visited the Parsonage at Haworth twice, so I consider myself a fan... This novel is worth sharing with new readers.

This is one of my all-time favourites. They say Anne drew from her own experiences to write this novel, her second after "Agnes Grey", and that Arthur Huntingdon is a disguised version of her brother Branwell. Thus the vivid account of alcoholism.
