Lennon Remembers is a book by Rolling Stone magazine co-founder and editor Jann Wenner that was published in 1971. It consists of a lengthy interview that Wenner carried out with former Beatle John Lennon in December 1970 and which was originally serialised in Rolling Stone in its issues dated 21 January and 4 February 1971. The interview was intended to promote Lennon's primal therapy-inspired album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and reflects the singer's emotions and mindset after undergoing an intense course of the therapy under Arthur Janov. It also serves as a rebuttal to Paul McCartney's public announcement of the Beatles' break-up, in April 1970.

Accompanied by his wife, Yoko Ono, Lennon aired his grievances to Wenner about the Beatles' career and the compromises the band made during their years of international fame. He makes cutting remarks about his former bandmates, particularly McCartney, as well as associates and friends such as George Martin, Mick Jagger and Derek Taylor, and about the group's business adversaries. Lennon portrays himself as a genius who has suffered for his art. He also states his disillusion with the philosophies and beliefs that guided the Beatles and their audience during the 1960s, and commits to a more politically radical agenda for the new decade.

Although Wenner's decision to re-publish the interview was done without Lennon's consent, the book helped create an enduring image of Lennon as the working-class artist dedicated to truth and lack of artifice. While some commentators question its reliability, the interview became a highly influential piece of rock journalism. It also helped establish Rolling Stone as a commercially successful magazine.

Thank you so much Bookworm-lady, for sending these beautiful books -mainly about John Lennon, but also about the Beatles and Yoko Ono-, all the way to the Netherlands. Today they arrived here safely and I'm delighted with them. Yeah, yeah yeah indeed!;-)And they look so well-looked-after!

I sat down to have a peek at the book and before I knew it, I was well into it.... Better make some journal entries first Hendrickje!

I never knew John and Yoko used such a lot of hard drugs together. Such a pity! I'm looking forward to reading what John has to say about it, and about people we all know, like Mick Jagger and Maharishee Yogi, etc.

I'll let you know what I thought, kind and generous Bookworm-lady!

I've already finished this book. It is very interesting and brought me a lot of insights about John Lennon, about The Beatles, and about the '60 en '70's.

As often happens, when a great artist starts to talk, you expect wisdom, originality and great insights. That doesn't happen here. John Lennon comes across as a tormented artist who needs to create to diminish his suffering as a human being.

In English the book is called: Lennon Remembers. In Dutch it is called: Lennon Uncensored. Which is actually a better titel, since Lennon says many things I'm sure he has regretted later. Like how George Harrison could not write songs and how he is a better artist than Bob Dylan. Of how he is a genius and Yoko is an even greater genius.

Still, it must have been phantastic living his life and getting to know all the great artists of his era.

And very sad how his dream of living on the coast of the west of Ireland "When He Was 64" didn't come about. Thanks to a "fan".....

May he rest in peace. Great songwriter, great musician, thank you!

And thanks again and Hi, Bookworm-lady! I will pass this book on eventually!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I took John Lennon to another city. To a wonderful location for releasing books at Central Station Utrecht. There were not very many books there and the moment I put it down, a young man reached out for it. Let's see, what comes of that!
