A rather ominous book that I browsed through. The book focusses mostly on the USA and its relationship to the rest of the world - its power over others. Author Friedman predicts a world war (WWIII) between the USA and....Japan and Turkey around 2050. America's allies will be: a "Polish Bloc", the UK, India and China. Germany and France will enter the war in its late stages on the side of Turkey and Japan. Chapter 12 talks about America's "Golden Decade" starting in 2060, after the US and its allies have won. Nowhere in the book is a pandemic mentioned, nor the climate crisis. I really don't see how we're going to make it to 2040, 2050 or 2060, without clean air and water. It doesn't matter how big your military is, or if you control outer space when you are choking on fumes, your land is flooded (i.e. Florida), pollinators have disappeared and there is no drinkable water. Another point: an academic work like this (or biography) should always have an index! It's a frustrating book without one. Overall, I found it hard to take this book seriously.
