WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Enjoy!
Found this at the Little Free Library while dropping off some books of my own, and couldn't resist it! It's a Storm Constantine novel I'm not familiar with. (She's perhaps best known for the Wraethu books about mysterious, beautiful aliens in a post-apocalyptic world.) Perhaps my favorite works are her short stories, several of which were collected in The Thorn Boy and Other Dreams of Dark Desire.
This turned out to be a very dense novel with some serious world-building - and with beautiful-and-strange races that were a bit reminiscent of the wraethu, with their own variations of unusual sex and complicated life cycles. The story has a special threat, though: the previously-immortal race is beginning to die, and the protagonists have to find a way to thwart whatever is causing the devastation. To do this they need to find a special being, and to effectively break into another dimension. It got a bit too complicated for me, with lots of wise-folk handing out advice along the lines of "you must do this but you dare not do that and if this other thing happens doom will ensue", so... not as much fun as I'd hoped.
[There's a TV Tropes page on the book, with some entertaining tidbits.]
