I've had this softcover on my keeper shelves for years, and I think it's time it went traveling.
Waugh's hilariously bitter riff on British vs. American customs (special focus on burial customs, as most of the action takes place in or around a funeral home, but he gets in a number of digs on other matters as well) begins with a warning to the squeamish - though modern audiences who are used to watching "Six Feet Under" or "C.S.I." may not consider this book terribly gruesome. Expatriate Englishman Dennis finds work, love, rivalry, and eventual - well, I won't spoil it. One might say the book has something for everyone... {wicked grin!}
There's a 1965 film adaptation featuring Jonathan Winters - it's amusing, but wanders a bit from the book's plot and tone. (See the TV Tropes page on the film and book for some entertaining tidbits.)
