I found this somewhat-battered 1914 hardcover on the book swap shelf in the Tyngsboro MA post office lobby. [Apparently it was adapted to the screen in this 1930 film, though the film itself is considered lost.]
The back-cover copy includes some... interesting text: "[the book] will have a tremendous influence for cleaner, more purposeful books. All lovers of decency will be grateful to the author for this powerful blow at the present day evils in Art and Literature." Um... OK!
While I have enjoyed some vintage novels, this one didn't grab me, but its charming (if a bit sugary) illustrations and gentle tone might appeal to someone.
