The Secret Barrister

My sister passed on this book but it's not really my cup of tea. Having served on a jury several years ago was enough of a deterrent for me!

A really interesting, informative and thoroughly depressing book. I feel the need to find out more about the criminal justice system now. I’m definitely reading Fake Law at some point.
I’d have given this 10 stars were it not for the lack of consideration (or even mention) of the impact of systemic racism and sexism (and other likely failings based on systemic discrimination on the basis of protected characteristics). There is a brief mention of possible racism affecting sentencing and a little reference to unconscious bias but no real acknowledgement that the criminal justice system does discriminate, even if it were to say that this is an issue that isn’t covered in this book but does exist.
