Journal Entry 1 by wingGoryDetailswing from Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Wednesday, December 9, 2020
I found this handsome hardcover in this Little Free Library in Merrimack NH while dropping off some books of my own. It features poems about a variety of creatures, with paintings by the author.

The poems are amusing, and are sometimes formatted in keeping with the subject; for example, the "Inchworm" entry is laid out as if the text were the inchworm. "I inch, I arch, I march along. I'm just a pinch, a mere inch long. I stroll and stick on sticks in thickets, and never pick up speeding tickets."

Another entry that amused me:

"The io moth
Has mam-moth eyes
That are not real -
They're a disguise
To ward off birds
And other creatures,
Like garter snakes
And science teachers."

Oh, and this excerpt from the "Weevils" poem:

"We are weevils.
We are evil.
We've aggrieved
Since time primeval...."

Some entries include behavioral tidbits, such as the one about Monarch butterflies, which refers to their defense trait - a foul taste that teaches predators to leave them alone:

"...He is a monarch.
He is a duke.
Swallows that swallow him
Frequently puke."
