I found this softcover in this Little Free Library in Ayer MA while dropping off some books of my own, and nabbed it for another release copy.

It's a very funny children's book by awesome author Neil Gaiman, with quirky illustrations by Skottie Young. Somewhat in the vein of Dr. Seuss, it features a wildly imaginative explanation for why the Dad took so long getting back from the store with the milk, which FORTUNATELY survived the many and increasingly bizarre adventures. The stegosaurus in the hot-air balloon (that is, "Floaty-Ball-Person-Carrier") is among the milder adventures {wry grin}; there are also pirates, time-travel, and even some "wumpires" - though the latter are not the "nice, handsome misunderstood wumpires" that the daughter dreams about. (The illustration for that is really delightful, merging aspects of "The Little Prince" and Tim Burton's art-style with "Twilight".)

And the final illustration features a hint that just maybe the whole adventure wasn't a tall tale after all!

[There's a TV Tropes page on the book, with some entertaining tidbits.]

Guess my new hobby is book hunting. Thanks Gory Details!
My husband is a big Neil Gaiman fan. It'll be a fun book to read with our kiddo.
