I found this softcover at a local Savers thrift shop. It's by humorist Dave Barry, whose work I've enjoyed since first reading it in the newspaper decades ago. Here, he meanders from some autobiographical musings about his own insecurities - while comparing himself to David Beckham, a deliberate and amusing choice - to writing to his daughter about learning to drive, and on to other aspects of life, all with hilarious notes and occasional moments that are pretty touching.

The book came out in 2015 but has some passages that resonate very strongly in these COVID-19 days, such as the bit comparing the dangers of a hand-shake to those of smoking. Remember when shaking hands was a thing? There's also a delightful account of a trip to Brazil - with lots of Barry-esque quips about soccer - but which reminded me yet again how much my world-view has changed in this last year.

Home ownership and maintenance, a diplomatic mission (!) to Russia (to quote a catch-phrase of Barry's, I swear I'm not making this up), a funny/sweet letter to his first grandson... Entertaining addition to the Barry books.

[There's a TV Tropes page on Barry and his work, with some entertaining tidbits.]
