I found this UK-edition softcover in this Little Free Library in Merrimack NH while dropping off some books of my own. I enjoyed (for certain values of "enjoyed") his relentlessly-grim The Road; will see how this one goes!
Later: OK, "relentlessy grim" is just the starting point here. It's in first person vernacular and that made it harder for me to read - partly in just parsing the language, and partly because it was so very, very bleak! By the end there's a weird mythical tone suggesting that the characters are all making their way to some kind of endless hellscape - as if the previous events and settings weren't bad enough... I mean, I can enjoy some pretty dark fiction, but this one was well outside my comfort zone!
