This is not an ordinary book: it's a BookCrossing book! BookCrossing books are world travelers - they like to have adventures and make new friends...and with your help, they can even write home to say what they've been doing! (You may remain anonymous if you wish.)

Mirror Lake Internment Camp
California, 1942

Children's hardcover: no dust jacket: part of the Dear America/My Name is America series. From the book tent at the Punahou Carnival.

A fictionalized account of a Japanese-American boy imprisoned by his own government during WWII. The photo on the cover is of a real boy named Bruce Sansui, and was taken at the Manzanar internment camp in California by photographer Toyo Miyatake.

Naomi Izuka has adapted this story for the stage; I think it would be interesting to see. There's a good resource guide from the production here.

Here's another copy on my BookCrossing shelf.

Since this book is about Japanese Americans, I released it at Times. Times Supermarket was established by Japanese American brothers Wallace and Albert Teruya after WWII; the Kahala store has a plaque honoring their third brother Herman, who was killed while serving with the US Army's 100th Battalion in Italy.

Released for Secretariat's 2020 NJABBIC challenge (week 26: 2nd quarter re-do) and my Seeking Septads challenge.
