Cleverly written, a gripping thriller with well developed characters. This book is the second in the series about the serial killer Gretchen Lowell and Detective Archie Sheridan. In the first novel Gretchen had abducted Archie and tortured him for 10 days. In this book he has recovered from his injuries, but he is a damaged man, addicted to pain killers, obsessed with Gretchen, and trying to rebuild his life with his family. He visits Gretchen weekly in prison trying to find out where her other victims are buried. When some bodies are discovered in a near by wood, he has to focus on this current case. He is also helping out a young journalist, Susan Ward, who was about to publish a story about a senator’s affair with a young teenage girl, when he is killed in a car crash, it seems to coincidental. Then Gretchen escapes from prison, and no one close to Archie is safe.
