I loved The Big Stone Gap Trilogy so looking forward to this one as well and sharing it with my BC friends.

I read this in three sittings. I couldn't stop turning the pages and I didn't want to put it down. Like the other Trigiani novels, she has such a sense of family that it is impossible to not become part of the character's lives.
I could relate to so much of Lucia's traditional Italian home and as I read, I remembered so much of my own childhood in Toronto's little Italy - the small grocery stores, the bakeries, the family rivalries and loyalties and the sense of community around church and home.

Although Lucia's story is a sad one, I never felt sorry for her. Her character, like Trigiani's other female characters, is strong and self reliant.

I liked the history and the attention to detail in this novel;the clothes and lifestyles of the '50's and the social conventions and constraints women were under were well written.

This is going to poohbear3 next.

This book made a detour at me first!

This book is GREAT! I absolutely LOVED it. I am not Italian, but have always had a soft spot for the Italian traditions and norms and values. I absolutely adored Lucia. Like I felt about Ave Maria when I finished the Big Stone Gap trilogy, I was very, very sad to leave Lucia.

This book made me laugh out loud, made me cry, and like cestmoi, I could not put it down. I broke my self-imposed bedtime rule a few times with this book. Adriana Trigiani is a wonderful story-teller. To steal a line from Kit at the end of the book: "It was riveting. Every morsel of it."

I enjoyed this book. Adriana Trigiani has a way of making me feel like Im living the story. Wish this was a trilogy like Big Stone Gap. I am saving this to pass off at our next group get together.

I passed this on to one of my reading buddies at one of our meetups quite awhile ago. Im sure they will journal it when they get to it.

Okay, so you ladies who have already read this book have said it all. It was a lovely book, one I found hard to put down! Why did it have to end so quickly? Lucia, come back......

I am going to pass this on to a future (I hope) Bookcrosser. This book should hook her.

Thank you for passing this book on to me.
