Gosh, i've made it to number 5 of the series, and I am definitely in the right place; from the dedication to Terry Pratchett:
"... who has stood like a wossname upon the rocky shores of our imaginations - the better to guide us safely into harbour"
Well said!
*spoiler*
(21/06/20) In which PC Peter 'Starling' Grant leaves the relative safety of the Folly for deepest Herefordshire, a Larrnden boy traipsing the hills and woods helping to find 2 missing girls. When the pieces finally fit into place, the daughters (mostly*) are relocated with their parents and Peter is rescued from the clutches of a fairy 'fae' princess and her unicorns in a parallel universe!
There are various side stories, not all tied up here; an old wizard colleague of Nightingale's and his odd bee-like granddaughter; Peter's blossoming relationship with one of the Rivers, Beverley Brook; and the chase to find the AWOL Lesley May ... I forget how she came to be on the run? Anyhoo, it's been nice to get away to the country and respite from the Faceless Man, an' all, but back to the smoke now please :)
