I've had this softcover on my keeper shelves for a long time now, and I think it's time it went traveling.
It's a fascinating account of a truly heinous crime (and with as much in the way of "gory details" as anyone could ask!): the savage torture, murder and dismemberment of Elizabeth "Black Dahlia" Short in 1947. The author has accumulated a lot of data about the Dahlia case and about another murder that, he suggests, was committed by the same person. He also proposes a solution to the case, and while I can't say that he isn't convincing, I suppose part of me balks whenever a famous "unsolved" case looks like it might be settled - in a way, I'd almost rather not know...
Lots of period detail and behind-the-scenes info here; a good read for true-crime buffs. [But it is very, very graphic, including photos of Short's devastated body. You have been warned!]
Since I first read the book, I've read other accounts of the case, both fictional and non - and I even got to visit a memorial to Short in Medford, MA, near the place where she spent her childhood. (For an interesting graphic-novel-style account of the case, check out Rick Geary's Black Dahlia, from his 20th-century-murders series.)
