The Hopeful Trout and Other Limericks
3 journalers for this copy...
I got this ex-library hardcover from Better World Books. It contains an assortment of limericks - some funny, some groan-inducing, and a few on the darkly-humorous side. [The book seems suitable for children, as in "free of the racier limericks" {wry grin}.] Some that I particularly liked:
There was a young lady from Gloucester
Who complained that her parents both bossed her,
So she ran off to Maine.
Did her parents complain?
Not at all - they were glad to have lost her.
[It also serves as an example of the correct pronunciation of "Gloucester"!]
Then there's the rather surreal title poem:
There once was a trout on a plate
Who thought, "Was it something I ate
That brought on this dream?
I'll be back in the stream
when it's over. Till then, I'll just wait.
The illustration shows a fork nearing the blissfully-musing trout, so things probably won't end well. [Though who puts a live trout on a dinner plate? Hmmm - maybe this book's darker than I thought!]

I left this book, bagged against the elements, on a picnic table at the little turnout spot near the dam on Hooksett Road. (The photo shows a nearby tree starting to sport autumn foliage.) Hope someone enjoys the book!

Journal Entry 6 by justspecimens at Playground in Deerfield, New Hampshire USA on Wednesday, September 16, 2020
I considered leaving this in the local Little Free Library but saw the previous journalist had it in their own LFL for several months without success. So I opted to leave it in a different child-friendly place in hopes someone will find it there.
very cute book
