I found this softcover anthology in this Little Free Library in Pepperell MA
while dropping off some books of my own ahead of a snowstorm. The stories tend to be deeply personal, whether dealing with a woman who's distracted by memories during an unwelcome teaching-hospital examination or a family coming to terms with the death of their beloved cat - and the surprising gathering of birds and other wildlife in the yard. Parenthood, family pressure, a child with cancer... and a truly devastating tale about a woman who - feeling awkward about holding other people's babies - is handed one at a neighborhood picnic and has a fall, in which the baby hits its head and dies. Yeah... that one was rough, both in concept and in the details of how quickly things can change, and how the fallout can affect everyone concerned. It takes an unexpected turn when the woman discovers the benefits of therapeutic massage, a sort of closed-loop from her fear of touching others to need-to-be-touched. And there's a kicker to that as well; memorable story!
