It takes a lot for me to give up on a book and leave it unfinished, but this was just not for me. I read longer than I would have because the plot had promise (and it might still be a great plot) but the writing just blocked me at every turn, mostly the characterization. In the case of the protagonist, it was like the author couldn't decide if she was a cynical rebel or a loyal citizen, and the disparity was incongruous and the thoughts/dialogue rang false to me. Maybe someone else's experience with this book will be different, so once the lockdown is over, I will let it go.

I think perhaps the reason I didn't connect with this book is that it was written for more of a teenage audience. It traveled today, along with some others, to a friend for her large (live-in) school--as the students cannot go out at this time it may provide some distraction!
