Lord Copper, newspaper magnate and proprietor of the Daily Beast, has always prided himself on his intuitive flair for spotting ace reporters. That is not to say he has not made the odd blunder, however, and may in a moment of weakness make another. Acting on a dinner-party tip from Mrs Algernon Stitch he feels convinced that he has hit on just the chap to cover a promising little war in the African Republic of Ishmaelia. One of Waugh's most exuberant comedies, Scoop is a brilliantly irreverent satire of Fleet Street and its hectic pursuit of hot news.

Just realised I forgot to add my thoughts before adding to the parcel for mailing. Not a lot to say and it has faded from memory fairly quickly. I did find this a little odd and maybe I just don't appreciate his style of satirical humour.

Thanks for the tag, jeniwren. I’ve struggled a bit with a few of his books previously, so will see how I go with this one.

I’m with you, jeniwren . . . not really my type of humour. I don’t mind satire but feel that I don’t need to be hit over the head with it. Having said that, I found Scoop an easier read and slightly less annoying than the others of his I’ve read. Perhaps because it was more outlandish and less about the boorish young english upper class types behaving badly. To be honest I think I only persevered with the others because they were on the 1001 list. This one isn’t, so there you go . . .

Now reserved as a wishlist tag.
