I'm claiming this paperback from the latest round of the Vampire Bookbox. The cover-art's delightfully cheesy {wry grin}. [I found an inscription on the title page, a "hope you like this / happy birthday" message - apparently from the author himself!] Looks like this is a sequel to Monastery.

Later: Set in Seattle, the story features the New Ones - a new breed of vampires (created with some help from military scientists) - and some of the more traditional type, who find themselves battling the New Ones to prevent the destruction of humanity.

The plot gets quite complex, with conflicting factions among humans and vampires, the ever-popular military-wanting-to-weaponize-vamps, and an intriguing adversaries-united-against-a-foe relationship between young traditional-vampire Braille and Ancient One Gregory.

There's a wildly dramatic climax, in which we get a good look at what a national response to a vampire-plague might be. And just when you thought it was over, the epilogue dishes up a very tantalizing teaser...
