The Beggar Maid

I love Alice Munro's stories, but over the years I had never been able to lay my hands on a copy of this collection. Imagine my delight when I found this battered old hardcover in a Little Free Library in my neighbourhood! I dove into it that very day, and some of the stories seemed a bit familiar- but didn't disappoint. Munro's stories were expertly crafted- insightful but subtle- even back in 1977.
It was only upon finishing this book that I went to shelve it and realized I already owned it: I have a paperback copy of 'Who Do You Think You Are', and it's the same book, with a different title!
(The typeface statement in this copy was an excellent reminder of why I love to read from real, paper books. "This book was set via computer-driven cathode-ray tubes in ELECTRA, a type face designed by W. A. Dwiggins." Computer-driven cathode-ray tubes! Whatever will they think of next?)
