Taken from the free books place in front of Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien when I went there to release some books.

This was a great book, rather depressing in these depressing times, but it is what it is. It is about 3 Indians going to the UK in semi-legal or illegal ways and a young woman of Indian family born in England. I had to look up quite a lot about India while reading it, but that's how you learn... Only the epilogue was a bit too optimistic after that book, I think.
Interestingly, I read in a journal entry of another copy at BC that the reader found none of the main characters likable, an opinion I don't share at all. I think the perspectives were done very well, most of the time I could somehow relate to the way they were deciding.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

so this is traveling with the unusual countries sweeps... I think it a bit unusual to leave the EU, but this is not the reason... what I really had in mind is that those people in the book live in quite another country not to say universe than the people around them, so I think that qualifies for the sweeps :-)

Thank you so much, Schwester, for sending me this book . I'm looking forward to read it and will start right a way as I finished my last book yesterday. The plots of the last three books I read where all placed in Germany , so it's time travel again to Britain, to India..

Finished the book about three weeks ago, even though it was not a fast read, and still not sure what to think ( or write ) about it.
Yes, it´s a bit depressive, although there are some tragicomic parts.
Definitely moving and as well unusual if you do not know these parts of the world , I mean India and life within the Indian communities in Britain. There are lots of Punjabi or Sikh words/expressions and a glossary would have been fine.

In the beginning, I found the book wordy in every way, except in explaining Panjabi/Urdu/Hindi words & customs. The author's stance on who should educate the masses sits squarely on the shoulders of the masses--as a fellow immigrant, I fully concur. It is not the job of the immigrant to teach us anything, so expect to do some legwork. In my research, I learned a lot, not least of which is all the meaning lost when one uses Punjab vs. Panjab (interestingly, I find a similar correlation in the use of simplified vs. traditional Chinese). I also learned all the names for, and treatment of, the caste of untouchables, which may explain the focus on Tochi.
Of the 5 books I was simultaneously reading, this easily took the lead and my attention. It was heartbreaking & beautiful, with a not necessarily happy ending but a contented one.

Setting aside as one of my contributions to hyphen8's Asian Diaspora VBB .
(A few pages are taped to spine & each other; definitely a used/well-loved copy ☺)
