FROM BACK COVER: New York Times bestselling author Laura Lippman plunges Baltimore private investigator Tess Monaghan into a twisted and disturbing case

Tess Monaghan has encounted almost every possible criminal motive throughout her career: greed, revenge, jealousy, rage But there are crimes that defy all attempts at understanding, where a search for motive seems pointless Melisandre Harris Dawes committed such a crime. Found not guilty by reason of insanity, she fled the country leaving her two daughters with their father. Twelve years later, she's back in Baltimore, and Tess is asked to provide security detail while Melisandre films a documentary about her attempts to reconcile with her now-teenage children. Tess, juggling work with caring for a toddler, is uneasy about the case. Still, Melisandre's lawyer is family. And there is something about the woman herself - confident, beautiful, shrewdly intelligent - that draws Tess in. Is she a master manipulator or someone who was driven to temporary madness? When Melisandre becomes the prime suspect in a murder, Tess must uncover the truth

Thank you, whiskeyjane! It was such an unexpected surprise to find this book in my mailbox yesterday, along with postcards, a where'sgeorge dollar, and a nice newsy letter. Snail mail continues to be one of my simple pleasures :-)
I will read the book soon and let you know what I think.

Although it isn't edge-of-your-seat suspense, I found the book fast-paced and interesting enough to keep me reading. It's definitely enjoyable.

Thanks again for the RABCK, whiskeyjane! I plan to release it soon, my first release in many months.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I left the book on a rock along a walking path at the Marian Shrine retreat center - a peaceful, beautiful 160 acre property which the locals frequent as a place to walk and/or meditate. You don't have to be religious to enjoy the grounds. It's a great place to get in touch with nature.

I hope the finder enjoys this unexpected gift. It came to me from New Mexico (thanks, whiskeyjane :-) so I'd like to see it continue its journey.
