In a stunning memoir-cum-travelogue Peter Carey charts this journey, inspired by Charley's passion for Japanese Manga and anime, and explores his own resulting re-evaluation of Japan. Although graphically violent and disturbing, the two mediums are both inherently concerned with Japan's rich history and heritage, and hold a huge popular appeal that crosses the generations.
Led by their adolescent guide Takashi, an uncanny mix of generosity and derision, father and son look for the hidden puzzles and meanings, searching, often with comic results, for a greater understanding of these art forms, and for what they come to refer to as their own 'real Japan'. From Manhattan to Tokyo, Commodore Perry to Godzilla, kabuki theatre to the post-war robot craze, Wrong about Japan is a fascinatingly personal, witty and moving exploration of two very different cultures.

Let's see if this book will end up in Tokyo at the end of this year - if the world's coronapandemic allows.. Meanwhile this could be read in Oulu..
Btw, the book fits to Australia Challenge (-21.9.2020) as Carey, the two-time winner of the Booker Prize, was born in Australia and is described - despite his new home country - as an Australian novelist: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Carey_(novelist)

Due to the corona restrictions there was one café open in Tripla (or actually the railway station of Pasila) today so I after staying indoors for nearly two weeks I finally got my oat latte <3 Unfortunately it was not very good, not something I'm used to..
However, the café sold interesting looking chocolates so I had to get some :) I was especially interested in Hazelnut & Campsite Coffee Dark Chocolate, but as all the people in the world are not into coffee - a fact that is somewhat beyond my understanding - I took also this Sea Buckthorn & Salty Caramel Dark Chocolate :D They both are Fazer's and crafted with wonder in Finland :O
The coronavirus has changed everything for everyone now, but luckily there are still some small things to enjoy ;) And one day this will be over!
PS. No pressure in reading the book or taking it to Japan, you can just release it :)

What a nice surprise! <3 Our family was going to Japan in March but Corona changed everything. Let's make a new try in November. I'm afraid the chocolate will be eaten by then, but maybe the book will find its way to the other side of the world.
By the way, I'm planning to take some salmiakki, salty licorice, with me to shock the people I meet, haha! ;)
Thanks Tarya! Keep safe!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I left the book at the Kurjet (Cranes) statue in Snellman park.
I’m a very special book. I’m travelling around the world meeting new friends and I hope I’ve met another friend in you. Please make a quick journal entry to say that you’ve found me, discover where I’ve been, who’s read me and let them know I am safe in your hands.
Then READ ME, make an entry about what you thought of me, then RELEASE ME – pass me on to someone else who will enjoy me. You can then post a release note on the site so you can continue the record of the journey that I take and the lives that I touch forever more! Thanks!
