This was a compelling portrait of both people and places. The book is comprised of audio recordings done by two teen boys living in the South Side of Chicago. The recordings span a few years and two radio broadcasts, plus a lot of info that didn't make the final cut for the radio. The book nicely preserves the sense of these boys talking to us as they go about their life, and find people with interesting points of view to talk to us too. By the end, these two young men feel familiar, and their shifting interviewing skills have developed from a child-like diary of hijinks and dramas to their investigative interviewing around the community impacts of the death of a child in a nearby building.
