Before the Coffee Gets Cold
6 journalers for this copy...
In a small back alley in Tokyo there is a cafe which has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. But this coffee shop offers its customers a unique experience: the chance to travel back in time.
We meet four visitors, each of whom is hoping to make use of the cafe's time-traveling offer, in order to confront the lover who left them, receive a letter from their husband whose memory has begun to fade, see their sister one last time and meet the daughter they never got the chance to know.
But the journey into the past does not come without risks: customers must sit in a particular seat, they cannot leave the cafe and, finally, they must return to the present before the coffee gets cold.

Unusual book that makes you think. The people in the book are all suffering in one way or another and mainly because they believe they know how others feel about a situation or indeed what others think of them. Often these assumptions are wrong. I quite liked this book but can't help wondering what the story is with the woman who is always in THE chair, reading a book. Maybe that tale will be told in a subsequent book.

This wishlist tag game book arrived today. Thank you Tanamo, for sharing it with me.
This was an easy and enjoyable read. The lives of the characters might be sad at times but there's always a glimpse of hope at every story. It reads fast and leaves a good feeling at the end.

This is now in Edinburgh! Thank you nakipa for this and the lovely selection of bookmarks.
I really enjoyed this book and the way it is a mix between a ghost story and a time traveller book. I also really liked the rules of time travel which made me think of the rules in fairy tales. The characters and their stories were all so interesting. I really want to read the follow-up book with more tales from the cafe. Thank you for sharing this one with me!
And off it goes to the winner of the Authors from Unusual Countries Sweeps. Happy reading!
Wow, I'm very excited to receive this. It was on my wishlist because I read about it on a recommended list and it sounded so interesting. I'm eager to find out for myself.

This was charming. Time traveling may seem a bit overdone but there were some interesting twists to the rules. And although some of the episodes were a bit predictable, others contained some surprises and food for thought. It definitely left me wanting more. I'm especially curious about the story of the ghost.
I'm counting this as my read for Asia / Japan in the 666 Around the World Reading Challenge for 2022.

Thank you so much, Azuki! What a nice copy eventhough it is well travelled. I love to get a well travelled book and read what everyone thought of it - so thank you to everyone who had the book before and took the time to write down their thoughts.
Azuki, thank you for the pokemon candy you enclosed. My daughter saw straight away that it was Pokemon!
