I read the English version so many years ago because I can’t read French. This was one of the books that my French husband studied with his students and I would love to move it off my bookshelf.

Thanks a lot for the suprise. A little bit of sunshine in this cloudy friday. Came with a lot of other goodies. I did not had the chance to read a lot of books by african autors. It will be a discovery for me.

Un livre intéressant et dépaysant. Plus une biographie qu'un roman.

Primé en 1954 ! L'ouvrage est donc assez ancien, pour de la littérature francophone d'outre-mer. Franche, simple, éclairante description d'une enfance en Guinée du temps de l'AOF, Afrique Occid. Franç.

Et Camara Laye a connu la vie d'un expatrié, employé dans la firme auto Simca, puis à la RATP, entre autres, avant de retourner en Guinée lors de l'indépendance (le "non" à la CFA d'Ahmed Sékou Touré en sept. 1958 aboutit à l'indépendance de la Guinée) mais le régime autoritaire de Touré ne lui plaît pas. Camara Laye gagne alors la Côte-d'Ivoire et ensuite le Sénégal.

La suite du TdM 3 ? Plus tant de temps pour lire de gros pavés :)
