Hillbilly Elegy

This book is a victim of the most common pitfall of memoirs: its writer seems to believe that it is enough to list disconnected episodes and describe various characters from his life, without attempting to imbue them with any kind of narrative arc that would make the book seem like a coherent story. The effect is dull, as tedious as watching someone live a directionless and unremarkable life in real time. I made it less than halfway through, then gave up. I have many more books I'm eager to read! I hope the next reader enjoys this more.
