I think I picked this up a while ago in a charity shop.

This is a really interesting account (it is in fact I think an abridged version of his "The Interesting Narrative"!). It revealed some horrors of slavery that I had only been vaguely aware of. It is an intelligent account and ends with solid arguments against slavery. What an incredible life. It was of some solace to me to read that he was taken in by two or three different families when in Britain that truly looked after him and cared for him. This was a man with, in his maturity, a strong sense of humanity.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
After I saw photos taken by a friend of a memorial to Olaudah Equiano at Telegraph Hill, I offered it to him and today the book exchanged hands over a coffee.

A powerful read - that said, a very brief paragraph at the start stating the African section is likely fictionalised removes much of the book's potency. I'd like more info' on how it was discovered Equiano fictionalised his early slave days (and why).
