Taken, along with her mother and father, from the Terezín ghetto in Prague, Dita is adjusting to the constant terror that is life in the camp. When Jewish leader Freddy Hirsch asks Dita to take charge of the eight precious volumes the prisoners have managed to sneak past the guards, she agrees. And so Dita becomes the librarian of Auschwitz.

A wishlist tag book going to Tanamo

This has arrived safely but it may be a while before I get to it as Mt Toobe is really high at the moment. I suspect I might need to stock up on Kleenex before starting to read it too.

Took me a while to read this book as I had to do it in small chunks because the subject matter was so upsetting. I perservered because I knew it was based on a true story and that the author met Dita so I knew that she survived.

Even though it is a translation from a Spanish novel, I am intrigued by its subject matter, so I am keeping and replacing it.
