Kind of cute, kind of creepy, and kind of sad. A well-done graphic novel.

The books arrived safely in today's mail; many thanks! This one looks good - cute-and-creepy works for me!

Later: I enjoyed this one, though it got a bit darker than I'd expected. It has a similar story-arc to Roller Girl, in the sense of "teen not fitting in at school and generally feeling awkward, and willing to do questionable things to try and win friends" - but here, things take quite a swerve early on. Anya, her head full of the embarrassing and/or infuriating moments of the day, falls into an old abandoned well in the woods. She isn't badly hurt, but is very much shocked to find that there's a skeleton at the bottom with her... not a hopeful sign for rescue! Turns out the victim's ghost hovers near the bones, and is very happy to have someone to chat to - and even manages to intervene to awaken Anya in time to hail a passerby for help. Anya promises to have her bones buried properly - and then promptly forgets all about them (the most unbelievable part of the story for me; I can almost accept an actual ghost, but a kid "forgetting" a skeleton at the bottom of a well?). Ah, but the ghost cleverly snuck one of her finger bones into Anya's pack, and now she can follow Anya around!

At first the ghost is helpful - not in the best way, but giving Anya the answers to a quiz she couldn't study for through, you know, being at the bottom of a well, doesn't seem TOO bad. But things escalate from there, with the ghost trying to give Anya her dream of becoming one of the "in" girls, while Anya gradually comes to realize that the school's glitterati aren't necessarily good or even happy...

The relationship between Anya and her fellow Russian-immigrant Dima improves quite a bit, from her obvious distaste for him early on to her growing admiration for his research skills when she needs him. [Their talk about the challenges of fitting in is quite touching, if long overdue.] When Dima turns up some surprising facts about the ghost's true background, the story gets very scary, with Anya's family under threat; will she find a way to save them? Definitely an entertaining read, with some good points about some common coming-of-age problems.

[There's a TV Tropes page on the book, with some entertaining tidbits.]
