The first half of this was amazing. Beautifully written, with a magical atmosphere. I really liked the introductions to Frances and Yasha; and particularly liked the relationship between the former and Nils. But unfortunately the plot pace weakened for me after a while and my attention started to drift. It was still good - but not as good as it had been. A month or so on I can barely remember how the story ended, other than I felt somewhat disappointed. I wish the rest of the novel had lived up to its early promise.

So there were some aspects of this novel I really liked. I loved the parts with Yasha and his Dad. I felt it very difficult to warm to Frances' parents though. I found it a bit odd that the Norwegian characters were almost just wallpaper for the main story. Will probably wild release soon, unless this is on a wishlist.
