Picked up in the Darlington Library sale box.

I found this to be very hard going. Having just read The hand that first held mine, it was another on the theme of motherhood and loss . This one was quite exhausting- the narration was intense, sometimes dense, and steam rollered along. It was an incredibly intelligent book, which wrought emotions throughout- the pages ached at times. But, I just didn’t enjoy reading it, or rather I was at pains to read it.
