One of several books a friend gave me to read during my surgery recovery. I didn't end up reading them then (I found I didn't have enough mental energy to cope with literary science fiction), but I'm starting to read a few of them now.
I'm not sure whether I enjoyed this book. One of the blurbs on the back cover describes it as "Hauntingly weird", and that's a very accurate description. It's one of those books where you're never sure exactly what's going on (or whether the narrator is entirely reliable), but something about it keeps you reading for clues, even though you know you'll never get complete answers. Definitely good enough that I'll keep reading the rest of the series, but maybe after a break with something a bit simpler...
