I've had this for some time but it was knocking around my friends. I got it back to send it to Tanamo as part of the Wishlist Tag Game.

I'd not read anything by this author before but being a fan of books set in the Victorian era I was more than ready to give this one a go. It's not for the squeamish as it focuses on the squalor of the poor, the lack of treatment for mental illness, women definitely being considered second class citizens and the resulting crime and violence.

Many thanks for sending this wishlist book to me, Tanamo! I've read a previous book by Julie Myerson and I have a particular thing about reading Victorian set novels, so I thought this might be up my street. Seeing your review, I see that it's a gritty one. Looking forward to reading this and I think a fellow bookcrosser friend of mine might read it after me. Thanks again and stay safe during these weird times we're having.
