Journal Entry 1 by wingdaffodil-2wing from Norwich, Norfolk United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 1, 2020
This paperback was bought from a stall at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital.
It tells the story of Wendy Mitchell, from her own point of view, as she struggles to cope with dementia.
I'm really looking forward to reading this book as I'm a volunteer at a dementia support group along with my husband. He may also want to read the book and then I shall reserve it for another bookcrosser who has it on their wish list.

REVIEW:-"I found this book fascinating. interesting and at times very scary and emotional. I felt sad when Wendy attended a dementia support group and was upset when she found that it didn't meet again for another month. It was very disappointing that her employers encouraged her to take early retirement on health grounds instead of trying to support her in her job or maybe even finding her a different position while she was still keen to work aged 58 and several years from her retirement age.
I found it amazing that she could type so fluently and appropriately while her speech and memory were failing in other ways. However it was frightening to read of how her computer skills had all but disappeared after she'd had a break from using her I-pad for 3 weeks. I was so pleased when she found a friend who could "talk her through" the typing process till she remembered how to do it. It was heart-breaking to read of Wendy's last drive, last run and final baking session but uplifting to learn of how brave and pro-active she was/is in finding ways to combat and contain her dementia. This included her coping strategy when she was in a "mental fog" and how she dealt with it until the "fog lifted". All in all a very uplifting book and I shall certainly have a look at Wendy's blog which has helped so many people."
Reserved for at least 3 friends including 2 bookcrossers.

When re-releasing this book please be aware that airports are not a good place to leave books unless they have a specific book exchange shelf or area, due to security problems, so they may well just be disposed of. Also charity shops may well discard books that have been labelled in any way and they mostly chose only the books in the very best condition
to place on their shelves and discard the rest-so another bad release option.
