Subtitle: A Famine Gift for Ireland

Hardcover with dust jacket; I believe this was a mail-order purchase.

During the Irish potato famine, a group of impoverished Choctaw donated the then very substantial amount of $170 for famine relief: their sufferings on the Long March had taught them compassion for the misfortunes of others. This generous act deserves to be long remembered.

When award-winning Irish author/illustrator Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick heard this story, she wanted to know more and traveled to Oklahoma to research it; this is the lovely and moving result.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Saturday, November 21, 2020: not sure if the new paint job is done, or if this is an intermediate step. There was a good selection today; the library was well-filled when I left. This library has a high ceiling: good for tall books for kids! (Zoomable photo here.)

Guidelines for safely visiting and stocking Little Free Libraries here.
As a general rule, it never hurts to be cautious and sanitize your hands and frequently-touched surfaces.

Released for Secretariat's 2020 NJABBIC challenge (week 46: award-winning authors) and msrubble's The The challenge.
